A reduced length of hospital stay is not associated with an increase in hospital readmissions, according to a study in the Annals of Internal Medicine.
Researchers examined 14 years of data from 129 Veterans Affairs hospitals. During that time, they found that length of stay for five conditions decreased 27 percent, and the Medicare 30-day readmission rate for those conditions also fell from 16.5 percent to 13.8 percent.
