Philip Kingston and Michael Lindenberger Are Not Friends

An exchange between the two on Twitter yesterday shows why social media is sometimes our worst enemy.
|

Michael Lindenberger works at the Dallas Morning News, where he sits on the editorial board. Philip Kingston, of course, is the fiery councilman from District 14. Here’s what they had to say to each other yesterday on Twitter. For those who don’t do Twitter, I’ll break it down.

Kingston tweeted a picture of the City Hall portraits of his fellow council members. Several portraits were missing because those folks had recently lost their seats. [Ed: an earlier version of this post incorrectly said the portraits were of the DART board. Apologies for the error.] Kingston alluded to the Ice Cube song “It Was a Good Day,” tweeting with the picture, “In the words of the bard, didn’t even have to use my AK.” Lindenberger overreacted so violently that he probably pulled a hamstring. Referring to the downtown shooting a year ago, he wrote: “..saying what I think it says? forgot DART officer Brent Thompson killed by madman w rifle? distasteful @PhilipTKingston #fatherof6″

Amazing, right? Here’s where it went from there:

Kingston: “I’m guessing you have never heard of @icecube , but this is a really embarrassing tweet.” [Ed: agree.]

Lindenberger: “You were being clever but weren’t thinking. That’s how it struck me.” [Ed: probably just realized his mistake, trying to walk it back a bit.]

Kingston: “Oh, this is classic. How long ago did you Google “Ice Cube”? @icecube” [Ed: wondering what the heck Ice Cube would make of this spat over the remaking of the board of a public transportation agency in Dallas.]

Lindenberger: “Councilman, no one said you have to take it back. But just to be clear it wasn’t obscure; it was tone deaf and clumsy/” [Ed: he should have tagged in @MobbDeep, because there ain’t no such things as halfway crooks.]

Kingston: “Har! No it wasn’t. You overreached, and now you look like a fool.” [Ed: okay, okay. Time to the put the phone down. This has gone too far.]

Lindenberger: “We can disagree on that. My point hasn’t changed. My view :Your tone deafness stemmed from contempt for board members you (properly) ousted.” [Ed: I bet throwing him that “properly” bone won’t bring him around.]

Kingston: “My view: Hahahahaha! OMG you are so far over your skis. This is awesome. :)”

At that point, around 10:57 last night, Lindenberger gave up the fight and presumably went to bed, which was probably a wise decision.
