Wizards’ Kelly Oubre Had to Explain Himself After Last Night’s Game

Let's really drive this story into the dirt.

Yesterday I told you about how the Wizards’ Kelly Oubre ruined my lunchtime pickup game at the T. Boone Pickens YMCA. Candace Buckner wrote about the deal in the Washington Post. I love that an actual NBA player, after an actual NBA game, got asked about jacking up my pickup game at the Y. So delightful. Just as delightful: my colleague Zac and his 12-year-old son had good seats at last night’s game. Each time Oubre missed a shot, they shouted, “Back to the Y, Oubre!” Oh, and ESPN’s Bram Weinstein is calling me to chat in a bit about this Very Important Issue. While I’m waiting to talk to my good friend Bram, I’ll leave you with this story about Marty Turco that a FrontBurnervian sent me after he read yesterday’s post:

A few years ago (2003 or 2004), in late summer, I was getting ready to skate onto the ice for some stick and puck (similar to a shoot around in b-ball). A way to practice puck handling. But as our open session began, Marty Turco was at one end, taking practice shots from, I guess, his coach. We just assumed we would be relegated to just half a sheet of ice. A moment later, the coach asked us if Turco could play with us. He asked US (!). Freaking nuts. Some of the better guys got to practice shooting on Turco. NHL > NBA
