What’s your “ah-ha” book? Mine was Watership Down by Richard Adams. Christine Allison’s was Franny and Zooey by J.D. Salinger. A lot of people have said theirs was Ray Bradbury’s Fahrenheit 451, which we honored with a month-long celebration last April. Starting today, we’re celebrating The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton.

D Magazine‘s leadership group, D Academy, has been working for several months to prepare a month of activities celebrating all things Socs and Greasers for Big D Reads 2015. As Brad mentioned, we started the program this morning by handing out nearly 3,000 copies of the books to commuters while dancers and step teams from South Oak Cliff High and Trinidad Garza Early College High School at Mountain View entertained us. We continue the celebration tomorrow with a light show put on by several downtown buildings. Join us at Soda Bar at the NYLO for a Stay Gold, Ponyboy cocktail. Also, in the next few days, stop by South Side on Lamar to see Mike Stilkey transform thousands of recycled books into an Outsiders-themed art piece. We have a whole slew of events. Check them out here. Also, download our app to read with us on the go (check out the page tracker section). And take a picture of you with your book and post it with #ponyboywashere. We’ll choose a winner a week through April. Winners get a subscription to D, a $50 gift card to Ozona, and will be entered to win entrance to a brunch with S.E. Hinton on April 27.

To ensure you’ve read the book, we’re giving away 10 copies here on FrontBurner. Just send an email to [email protected], and I’ll make sure you get your copy. Read with us!
