One version of Munch’s The Scream.

Anyone ever feel like they’ve been temporarily transported into that one really famous Edvard Munch painting? Terrifying.

The Norwegian painter was plenty prolific, of course, it’s just that this image of a bald man howling in pain as the world swirls around him is so arresting. In honor of the 150th anniversary of his birth, the Munch Museum in Oslo and Norway’s National Museum have organized a comprehensive, two-venue exhibition of his life’s work. It’s a showcase of some 220 pieces, including, of course, The Scream. I would love to check it out, but I can’t exactly swing a trip to Scandinavia right this moment.

Happily, the Angelika has a behind-the-scenes “cinematic event” that offers us an in-depth look at the curatorial process and a chance to see the artist’s lesser-known work. It’s not the real deal, but it’s a pretty nice tease. And even though it’s a bit further away from the Mockingbird Station offerings, Matt Shelley has all the evidence you need to try new Greenville spot HG Sply Co. over on SideDish.

Meanwhile, if you’re feeling less nuts and more emo, The Appleseed Cast resurfaces for a show at Club Dada, which either has no air conditioning or broken, inadequate air conditioning. The point is, it gets crazy hot in there, so dress and drink accordingly. The Kansas-based foursome recently released a new album, so there’s plenty of new material to enjoy. I like “Cathedral Rings.” Muscle Worship and Life & Times are the opening acts.
