As what’s-her-face in Pride & Prejudice says, I do love a laugh.
The Dallas Comedy Festival, happily, starts tonight and runs through the weekend at the Dallas Comedy House in Deep Ellum. Tonight’s early show is stand up, and features quite a few locals to kick everything off. Frankly, I’m hoping one of them is Anonymous Internet Denizen “Karl,” who got his start right here on this blog yesterday afternoon with a hilarious joke about what women can do if they can’t make it to an ambulatory surgical center for a safe and legal abortion. Ask my coworkers. I was practically rolling on the floor.
I’ll probably be disappointed, though, and have to make do with this lesser line up of comedians from Dallas, Austin, New York City, and Seattle. Tickets to that show and the late night hour, something bonkers-sounding called Black Out Diaries, are just ten bucks each. Let’s put it this way: there’s no way Black Out Diaries, however this audience-interactive performance of true drunken stories turns out, is worse than The Carrie Diaries. Or to create some drunken stories of your own, drop by Black Swan Saloon at some point during the evening.
Over in the Arts District, we have the musicians formerly known as the Fort Worth String Quartet as the guests of the Dallas Chamber Symphony at Dallas City Performance Hall. The night will feature pieces by Beethoven and Schumann, as well as one composed by Dallas’ own Christopher Theofanidis. Word of The Greek‘s new happy hour hit my inbox at 6:33 a.m., and that’ll consist of free flat bread and $5 wells and glasses of wine from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. It is only Tuesday, yes? Yes.
