CodePink Dallas Stages Bust of Bank of America

I can already hear Glenn Hunter cursing under his breath when he sees I’ve posted this. The above video is from an event the Dallas branch of the liberal activist group Code Pink – which bills itself as a “women-initiated grassroots peace and social justice movement,” though I’m sure that Glenn would have some other words to describe it – staged last Saturday at the Bank of America branch at the intersection of Lemmon Avenue and Inwood Road in Dallas.

I share it with you not to endorse the group’s indictment of Bank of America and the evils which our country’s largest financial institutions have gotten away with, especially during the last several years leading up to the 2008 collapse. No, I share it because of the pure absurdity of their actions. It’s like a truly awful piece of guerilla theater.

Skip past the overly long introduction to the 2 min, 25 second mark. I think it’s the fellow dressed like Rich Uncle Pennybags and riding a motorized scooter who really makes this an unforgettable tableau.

  • Liz Landry

Really, Jason? The guy on the scooter did it for you? Not the “oh-look-here’s-a-pink-bra-launched-at-your-head” moment? Their website says that they want to inspire the community through creative campaigns, so I guess that demonstration definitely qualifies. haha

It looks like different branches of CodePink did this at BofA all over the US and I was confused why they chose BofA, but they say on their site:
Bank of America, a member of the “League of Doom,” not only leads the pack in illegal foreclosure practices, faulty loans, and tax evasion, it also pillages customers with exorbitant fees. In addition, as the official bank of the US military, the bank has been accused of improperly foreclosing on active-duty troops.

Gosh, I’m getting old. I remember when Code Pink was an anti-war organization. For some reason, they changed their focus when Obama was elected.

  • Obama’s Seat

It’s going to be a very entertaining Spring and Summer. Expensive, sure, but the unions are paying for it, so let the show begin!

  • Glenn Hunter

As long as they had a good time …

  • Neal

And why did these idiots protest at some random Bank of America branch? Who were they trying to intimidate — the drive thru tellers? The old lady who handles safe deposit boxes? The $50k/year branch manager? Why weren’t they at least at the green building downtown? (Hint, ladies, it’s called Bank of America Plaza.)

  • D. Shapiro

Yeah. I’m tired of stuff too.

  • J bennett

Did you ever hear of the “reason” why people actually DO THINGS,like march?Does anyone care about the actual issues here?Get your heads out of your behinds and learn about these things please…I am TIRED of ignorance.

  • Obama’s Seat

At least they didn’t flash anyone.

  • Glenn Hunter

@J Bennett: Putting on pink outfits and harassing bank employees is “doing something”?

“I can already hear Glenn Hunter cursing under his breath when he sees I’ve posted this.” And “The pure absurdity of their actions…”

I continue to revel in the smug, dismissive, self-righteous vibes of Glenn Hunter and Jason Heid, particularly as they toil in an industry that makes me think “who knew medical ventilators had secondary uses?” Can’t help but think about the broads — mommies, gal-pals, wives — whose work is never done supporting in mind, spirit and paychecks from their own 40-hour work weeks or household sweaty equity — you lads who pursue careers as literati dilettantes and whose spines you automatically look for when the world spits you out.

The methodology in which the CodePink Posse delivers its message is purposely meant to draw attention to the cause and raise awareness of an issue in a memorable, impactful way. I’d say a hearty Bush 43-like ‘mission accomplished’ shout-out, given the inclusion of the video and story on Frontburner. Sometimes, a lack of self-awareness is bad. Like this one. Have not the Erin Brockoviches, Karen Silkwoods and real-life Norma Raes of the world taught ya’ll anything?

  • @Not Buffy: I agree with you: They accomplished their mission, inasmuch as I posted their video.

Doesn’t mean we can’t all also have a good laugh about it. Didn’t they want us to laugh?

  • PeterK

I would love to know who is funding Medea Benjamin and Code Pink. We can assume it isn’t the Koch Brothers, but are they really a grass roots activist organization?
