The good professor argued in the Boston Globe last Friday that “mass transit needs mass to work.” Instead of investing in high-speed trains for Texas, he says, the federal government should put more money into — where else? — the Boston-New York corridor. He somehow failed to mention that Texas is the fastest growing state in the Union while Taxachusetts is struggling to keep its residents from leaving. One would think a future-oriented investment such as high-speed rail should go to where the growth will be. (via Greg Mankiw, a Harvard professor worth reading.)
