Jim Schutze breaks the news that Angela Hunt has gotten ahold of e-mails from Alex Krieger to Mayor Laura Miller expressing his ALL-CAPS displeasure that the Trinity River tollway is not a parkway, as was promised. I’m glad she did the reporting I’m too busy/lazy to do. I heard about Krieger’s dissatisfaction about a month ago, and I contacted him. He agreed to talk on background, and he asked that I call him the next day in New Orleans. I called his cell, left messages, but I never got a call back. Now that it’s out in the open, perhaps he’ll reconsider talking. (I’ve e-mailed him.) I didn’t want to say anything publicly, even though I was certain Krieger did not approve of it and that Mayor Miller knew this, because that information had been obtained off the record. My old journalism professor, Jim Schutze, would not have approved.
That said, Jim suggests you won’t hear anything from us (I assume he means from the mag proper, not from the blog) about this development. Actually, Wick’s publisher’s column regarding the parkway/tollway issue is scheduled to go to the printer on Thursday. It should be in your hands in the June issue, in about three weeks. I must now return to my day job so the mag actually gets out this week.
