In fact, there has long been a high-level cabal within the media giant, the so-called “Club 66,” which has prophesied that when the DMN finally reaches the apparently mystical weekday page count of 66, it will kick off an era of rebirth and renewal for newspapers everywhere.
Connoisseurs of plots will note that one more “6” and Belo would have aligned itself with forces of evil even beyond its own boardroom and editorial columnists, but no “newspaper of record” would ever go that far, publicly.
