From what I hear, the term “jumped ship” could more adequately be described as “forced to walk the plank.” Having presided over the two most tumultuous, unproductive years in the News’ advertising dept. history, Mr. Weaver’s two-year lease on life ended at approximately the same time he realized he would never be the publisher of the paper.
