A CORPORATE CITIZEN UNLOADS HIS OWN TRUCKS

|

The mayor reached me on a soccer field in Plano this a.m. and asked me to stop by the Foxmoor Apartments near Royal Lane. I got there, with Allisonettes #1 and #3 in tow, as Barrie Brown, CEO of Mattress Giant, delivered three loads of mattresses–gratis–to evacuees settled there yesterday. Brown said he and his men were up until 4 in the morning getting the delivery ready, and the guys were volunteering their time. Brown responded to Mayor Miller’s plea for help this week by promising $250,000 worth of mattresses, the largest donation in the company’s history, and I watched as he made good on it. The thing I like about the guy is that he was helping unload the trucks and sweating like a laborer. Good man. Good company.

Furniture and household goods are desperately needed now that the evacuees are being relocated into vacant apartments. To find the emergency warehouse closest to you to drop-off donations, please call the St. Vincent de Paul hotline at 214-352-7837.
