John Updike once said that the true measure that something is unimportant is how much energy is expended telling people how important it is. A perfect case in point is the DMN’s “Expanded Local Coverage” for Park Cities and other central Dallas suburbs. Today we found out how DMN management defines “expanded.” They took away the Park Cities Morning News section, which regularly ran 4-6 pages, and gave us exactly two half pages inside the Metro section. Hmmm. I wish my waistline would “expand” like that! Next up is the much-hyped “Neighbors” section which features “citizen journalism.” What does that mean? It means you write the stories and take the pictures! Isn’t that a great concept? You pay to subscribe to our paper, and you produce the content! Wick, why didn’t we think of this?
