Purrs, a funky homestyle cafeteria is opening next month. The restaurant will specialize in coffee, pies, quiche, and sandwiches. One side will be a coffee shop with a small menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The other side will be finished out as a cat’s playground with carpeted cat condos, bridges, scratching posts, and toys. There will be several TV screens that’ll be mounted low, and play bird videos.
“There are a lot of places for people to take their dogs, ” Roy Furr, Jr., cafe owner and veterinarian explains. “We hear it all day long in our business. Where can we take our cats? So we decided to open Purrs.”
Furr, Jr. is the son of Roy Furr the man who started Furr’s Cafeteria. Furr Jr., and his wife Becky, live in Rockwall and are both veterinarians. Roy Jr. says he grew up in a household full of cats. “My mom and dad raised Abyssinians,” he says. “Their favorite TV show was the Dick Van Dyke show. At one point we had four cats named Rob, Laura, Richie, and Mel. We have a cat now named Rose Marie.”
The Cafe will be located at 1300 Ralph Hall Parkway in Rockwall, it will be open Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m., and closed on Sundays.
