D Magazine’s Best of Big D party last night came at a perfect time to kick off a weekend of celebrations throughout town. Get your party hats on and keep the energy going as you hop from one bash to the next.
Christmas is a magical time of the year that comes and goes as fast as Emporium Pie’s Lord of the Pies on a Sunday. The Bishop Arts District decided we could use a little bit of cheer in this Texas heat, so they are bringing Christmas in July. Festivities include a decorated neighborhoods, sales at local shops, carols by Fox and the Bird and Kirk Thurmond, special sweet treats of the holiday variety and even photos with dear ‘ole Santa Claus. The forecast looks sunny, but be warned for the snow flurries coming through the streets of Bishop Arts around 7 pm.
You could say Deep Ellum Brewing Company gets really excited about Fridays, because they have two shindigs going on tonight. First, stop off at The Rustic for a launch party with local music from Shane Smith and the Saints out on the patio, local home brewing from Mox Nix and a preview of DEBC’s 3rd Annual Labor of Love Fest of Ales. This all goes down starting at 5 pm, so get there early because it will get packed.
Next, head to Del Frisco’s Double Eagle Steakhouse in Fort Worth for a five-course beer dinner at 7 pm. This menu rings at $70, but delivers items such as an open-faced croque monsieur with crispy prosciutto and strawberry jam, pistachio seared skin-on trout, crispy pork belly, shiitake-crusted prime ribeye, and black cherry gelato with cherrywood smoked bacon and chocolate covered espresso beans. Pakpao Thai launches their new Thai-influences build-your-own Bloody Mary bar for brunch at $8. Take a serving of vodka and mix it with a choice of three housemade mixes (Sriracha, Thai Mary or Curry) and an array of garnishes including pickles, three kinds of olives, celery sticks, jalapeños, cornichons, limes, lemons and Thai chilies. Brunch runs from 11 am – 2 pm.
Urban Crust Wood-Fired Pizzas will celebrate its fifth anniversary with its Grazie for 5 Years Celebration from 6:30 – 8:30 pm at its Historic Downtown location in Plano. All North Texas residents are invited to this free event, which will benefit North Texas Food Bank’s Food 4 Kids, an initiative that provides chronically hungry children in Plano with a weekend backpack filled with kid-friendly food. Exchange a donation for a raffle ticket to win prizes throughout the night, including a grand prize of an Urban Crust Mobile Pizza Oven Soiree for 20 people at a location of the host’s choice. Now back to the food… guests can look forward to wood-fired pizzas, signature drinks, a liquid nitrogen demonstration creating frozen cocktails, and a DJ at 32 Degrees Rooftop Bar and Patio.
