I’ve been pretty impressed with our Texas weather this season. My favorite summertime fruits are slowly becoming a relic of the past, unfortunately. (Miss you already, watermelon!). But autumn produce will slowly begin to fill the pumpkin-spiced hole in my heart. Check out all the happenings this weekend.
St. Michaels Farmers Market:
8011 Douglas
8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Rusty Taco’s brisket, sausage, and bacon tacos will make an appearance this weekend alongside Village Baking Co.’s chocolate, almond, or ham and cheese croissants. After, you should stick around for Becerra’s Tex Mex angus beef, pork, and chicken tamales and try their salsa verde Hot & wild which took home Judge’s Choice at the Austin Hot Sauce Festival.
Mother Shucker will be on board with tasty brisket, black bean, and cheesy chicken tamales and enchiladas. Strawberry Girl Preserves will have a jalapeño cherry tomato, and strawberry chili mint jam. Lucido’s has fresh pasta and Texas Hill Country Olive Oil.
Also, this weekend Merlin’s Baking and Catering is back with cauliflower ceviche, bean salad, jicama salad and lentil hummus.
Coppell Farmers Market:
793 S. Coppell Rd.
Saturday, 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Lots of good stuff happening over here. This Saturday, music will be provided by the Lost High Rollers Band. The Dallas Area Historical Rose Society—a non-profit organization that sells roses from their members’ collections—will also be attending.
The produce selection is very varied, including okra, cucumbers, radishes, onions, pacans, tomatoes; all manner of squash, fall pumpkins and gourds; leafy vegetables such as basil, arugula, sorrel, watercress, kale, and chard.
You’ll also find a panel of local chefs and farmers (including Chef Victoria Hooker of Le Cordon Bleu and Megan Neubauer of Pure Land Organic Farm) ready to answer your questions about how to get started eating locally, what you should look for in produce, and how to get the most for less. Starting at 2 p.m. on Saturday, you can learn about all of your options.
Four Seasons Market:
677 W. Campbell Rd.
Saturday, 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.
This Saturday will feature several new and returning vendors among the 37 participating this weekend, including AustinNuts (gourmet nuts), PosiCandles (all-organic candles), Sweets You Can’t Resist (homemade cakes), and Sweet T’s Smoke Co. (brisket and sausages). Russo’s Restaurant will provide samples from three humongous pizzas. Sounds delicious.
Grapevine Farmers Market:
325 S. Main Street
Thursday – Saturday, 8:00 am – 4:00 p.m.
This weekend, Grapevine foresees a pretty nice turnout with the weather being so wonderful. Expect find lots of local pumpkins, as well as all types of winter squash at the market. Also featured will be homemade pumpkin and sweet potato butter, which sounds downright heavenly, and local honey and jams. Next weekend will be the last Grapevine farmers market of the year, so if you can’t make it out then, be sure to stop by this weekend before they pack up and wait for warmer weather.

If you think you’ve got what it takes to be a TV star, don’t miss out on the open auditions for a new Food Network show taking place right at the market! If you’re a home cook with no professional training, this will be right up your alley. Auditions will be going on from 8 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, so bring your vibrant personality and legendary cooking skills, and don’t forget to break a leg.
