What To Drink Now: Cocktails to Make Oscar Smile

Sunday night the biggest names and brightest Hollywood stars gather to celebrate Oscar and the 85th annual Academy Awards.  Oscar night is a big night in our house, as movies are one of the most loved and time honored past times in America.   Though there are already some upsets this year, especially in the Best Director category, the evening will no doubt be one to celebrate….if for nothing else the honoring of James Bond.  If you are looking for a few tasty libations to help this along, either by toasting the winners or crying with the losers, here are a few nicely themed suggestions.  A few selections were sent for editorial consideration.

Vesper Martini
3 parts Hendrick’s Gin
1 part Stoli Gold
1 part Lillet Blanc
Directions:  Shake it very well until it is ice cold and strain into a martini glass.  Garnish with a thin slice of lemon peel.

Citrus Seas
Inspired by “Life of Pi”
1 1/2 ounces Shellback Silver Rum
1 ounce Light Orange Juice
1 ounce Light Ruby Red Grapefruit Juice
1/4 ounce Lemon Juice
Lemon or Grapefruit Twist Garnish
Directions: Combine liquids in cocktail shaker with ice. Shake to blend and chill. Strain into chilled cocktail glass. Garnish with lemon or grapefruit twist.

Inspired by “Lincoln” and perfect to mixing for your entire Oscar party
1ó parts GREY GOOSE vodka
ó parts Applejack
ó parts Freshly squeezed lime juice
ó part Cinnamon syrup
3 parts Cloudy apple juice
Directions:  Build in a highball filled with cubed ice. Garnish with a long, elegant cinnamon stick.

Midnight Shooter
Inspired by “Zero Dark Thirty”
1/2 oz Camarena Silver Tequila
1/2 oz Butterscotch Schnapps
1/2 oz Dark Crème de Cacao
1/2 oz Crème de Cassis
Directions:  Combine liquids in cocktail shaker with ice. Shake to blend and chill. Strain into shooter glass.

2 parts GREY GOOSE L’Orange
1 part Maraschino liqueur
2ó parts Freshly squeezed pink grapefruit juice
1 dash Dale DeGroff’s Pimento Bitters™
Directions: Combine ingredients in a shaker filled with ice. Shake and double strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with pink grapefruit peel.

.75oz orange juice
.75oz lemon juice
.25oz grenadine
Directions: Add all ingredients to a shaker with ice and shake until very cold, strain into a rocks glass over ice.
