    Another wonderful Savor Dallas weekend. The food highlight friday night was definately the Tuna Tartare Tacos by Jason Weaver of Texas Spice Restaurant. The Ribera wine were very good. The food trucks were a very nice touch.

    The highlight of the weekend is always the Reserve tasting. This year was another great one. There were too many wines to name all the great ones, but certain wines were most memorable. The M by Michael Mondavi was spectacular. The Clos Apalta is quite a big bold wine. The J. Davies Cabernet was a beatiful wine. The Numanthia had a nice spice to it. Too many to keep going on. Missing this year were any Ramey wines, Sad. There was no Beringer Private Reserve Cab for the first time that I can remember.

    The International tasting is more about food. Jason Weaver of Texas Spice did it again. The braised short ribs with macaroni was great. The 3 cheeses served by Scardellos were fantastic. Thanks to Rich and Karen Rogers. If you have not been to Scardellos, it is wonderful. Trevi’s served sea scallops with proscuitto, spinach and mashed potatoes with truffles. Then season with truffle oil. Wow!! The chocolates served by Nib chocolates and Stephen Smith were fantastic. He seerved 5 or 6 items, They were all great. The vanilla bean, star anise chocolate was heavenly.

    Dallas owes Jim and Vicki White a huge Thank You! This is one of the highlights of the year in DFW. See you next year.

    The International tasting was great although I really did not like the location at the Convention center in Irving. My favorite thing of all the great tastes was the smoked duck with a delicious and unusual succotash from Asador. Clearly I have been missing out by not hitting the Renaissance hotel for dinner. Also, even though Private Social has gotten uneven reviews, Tiffany Derry’s food was very nice -loved the pork with the fresh watermelon and pickled watermelon rind.

    Good event (especially the Reserve Wine Tasting). Favorite wine of the night was M by Michael Mondavi. Favorite bite was Bolla’s smoked scallop. Two complaints however. First, the Friday night Wine Stroll was entirely too short (it was impossible to hit all the venues at 2hrs, especially when some vendors began packing up after 1.5 hrs), and the Grand Tasting was entirely too crowded.

    Kessler event so-so…glad I ate before I went…way too many people trying to get to too few tables and they were very slow to move on once served…had a few (literal) sips of wine and a couple of brownies…didn’t attempt to wade through the rest…then everyone pretty much cleared out once the food tables came down and the crowd for Carrie Rodriguez was quite small…theater maybe a third full…and it was a really good show…would I do this again? Probably not for $35…
