Into The Weekend: Jingle Bells on Bishop, The Dallas Flea, First Saturday at The Nasher, and An Origami Workshop

The lovely Liz comes to the rescue (again) by very thoroughly answering the question of “Where to Celebrate Christmas in Dallas.” She’s included a trove of fab activities and events, many happening this weekend, including tonight’s Light Up Lakewood celebration from 6-9 p.m. at Lakewood shopping center and Holiday at the Center from 5-9 p.m. in the Dallas Arts District.

But wait, there’s more…Herewith a few things I would be doing if I weren’t going to be watching Audrey perform the role of mouse in four (!) consecutive performances of The Nutcracker (good times). I’ll just live vicariously through you guys as you partake in all this holiday weekend goodness. Deal?

Jingle Bells on Bishop
Celebrating its 17th year, this neighborhood Christmas festival goes down from  6-10 p.m. tonight and tomorrow and features music in the streets, roaming carolers, and snaps with St. Nick. The shops stay open late, and there’ll be plenty of good eats to partake in.

The Dallas Flea
You can hit the third anniversary of the Dallas Flea tomorrow from 9 a.m. – 4 p.m. and pretty much knock out all of you holiday shopping in one fell swoop. In addition to vintage furniture and finds, jewelry, and art, the bazaar will feature loads of holiday goods and decor.

First Saturday at The Nasher
This is, without a doubt, one of our favorite monthly events. Admission is free from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. when the Nasher hosts family yoga, an art scavenger hunt in the garden, sculpture demos, art projects, and storytime with the Dallas Public Library. After your done channeling your inner artist, take the crew over to Klyde Warren Park to run around and burn off steam.

Paper Origami Ornaments Workshop at We Are 1976
If you and the littles want to make your own origami ornaments à la Isabelle and Katherine, you can sign up for We Are 1976’s origami workshop on Sunday. The $30 class starts at 1:00 p.m. at the Bishop Arts location and will cover assembling modular origami wreaths, jewels and cubes, constructing geometric bells, and stringing Korean lucky star garlands. All materials are included. Register in the shop (while you’re at Jingle Bells on Bishop) or online by Saturday to secure a spot.

Happy weekend!
