WinCo Grocery is adding a new store in Duncanville at Highway 67 and Cockrell Hill. A Western grocery chain with about 100 stores, WinCo has a business model that allows for slightly lower prices than other grocery competitors. The company works to keep its prices lower by buying directly from suppliers.
WinCo Foods can trace its beginnings back to 1967, when Ralph Ward and Bud Williams founded a discount warehouse grocery store in Boise, Idaho, under the name of Waremart. It operated stores under the names of Waremart Food Centers and Cub Foods until 1999, when it changed its storefront name and the corporate name to WinCo Foods, which stands for “Winning Company.”
There are several other cities across North Texas where WinCo will be opening new stores, but its Duncanville store should be the first to open in southern region of Dallas. By strategically placing its store at Duncanville Crossings, its geographical reach should be regional and include DeSoto, Oak Cliff, and Cedar Hill.
