With 261,000 donations, DFW nonprofits were able to bring in $63.9 million on NTX Giving Day 2023, exceeding 2022’s giving. More than 97,000 donors contributed to 3,249 nonprofits. The day—delivered by Communities Foundation of Texas and presented by Amazon—saw its largest donation come in at $200,000.

“While I am new to the North Texas community and CFT’s North Texas Giving Day, I am not new to the profound impact that generosity and giving have on our quality of life,” said Wayne White, the new president and CEO of Communities Foundation of Texas. “Seeing North Texans’ legendary generosity up close and personal this Giving Day has been truly remarkable.”

In its 15 years, NTX Giving Day has raised more than $560 million. The largest recipients in 2023 were North Texas Food Bank, receiving more than $1.4 million, Westlake Academy Foundation, receiving more than $1 million, and Cistercian Preparatory School, which received nearly $900,000.

“At Amazon, community is at the heart of everything we do,” said Vickie Yakunin, head of community affairs for the Dallas region at Amazon. “We are honored to be the presenting sponsor of North Texas Giving Day again this year, and to put our resources to work elevating and supporting thousands of nonprofits through the nation’s largest regional day of giving. On behalf of Amazon, I want to thank each of the givers who joined in to share their care by donating dollars and pledging volunteer hours. We’re proud to amplify their efforts and to help grow the spirit of giving in our community through North Texas Giving Day.”

Haynes and Boone Relocates Dallas Office

Haynes and Boone’ Dallas office—the largest of its 19 global offices—has officially relocated to a new building at Harwood No. 14 from its former Victory Park offices.

The relocation means that the company’s 330 employees, including 200 of its 700 lawyers, have had a change in their office location. The new office comprises five-and-a-half floors and 125,000 square feet. Gensler Architects designed the interior, while the building was developed by Harwood International and designed by Corgan and Kengo Kuma & Associates.

“We are thrilled to be moving into this spectacular new building in the Harwood District of Dallas,” said Haynes Boone Managing Partner Taylor Wilson. “The new office modernizes our spaces to match the needs of our firm personnel and clients, with an emphasis on new technologies and eco-friendly functionality that we know our clients, lawyers and professional staff value.”

“As part of our firm culture, we are dedicated to serving the Dallas community, and that is reflected throughout our new office,” said Sakina Rasheed Foster, Dallas’ office managing partner. “We’re grateful to our partners at Scott + Reid, JLL and Gensler for helping create this modern new space where we plan to be for many years.”

Haynes and Boone reported a record year in 2022, topping $500 million in revenue for the first time in the firm’s 53-year history.

Bestow Partners With Transamerica

Dallas-based Bestow, which was named Forbes‘ best insurance company in America in 2023, has signed a partnership with Transamerica in which the century-old insurance company will deploy the Dallas-based startup’s SaaS offerings. Bestow will offer Transamerica customers with its digital platform that delivers innovative self-service options for Transamerica’s life insurance products.

The partnership will allow Transamerica to provide new products, including new final expense offerings, with enhanced customer experience while keeping a focus on quality and sound financial products that help bring people peace of mind.

“We’re finding a lot of product market fit and growth for licensing our platform to these large carriers and helping them expand their digital distribution and opportunities that they just don’t have the software infrastructure to build for themselves,” Bestow Founder and CEO Melbourne O’Banion told D CEO.

Bestow also has partnerships with USAA, Nationwide, and Equitable.

Dallas Startup Take Command Raises $25 Million

Take Command, the Dallas-based provider of end-to-end individual coverage health reimbursement arrangements, has secured $25 million in growth-stage financing. The lead investor was Edison Partners, while contributions were also made by LiveOak Venture Partners and SJF Ventures.

Take Command is the first and the largest provider of ICHRAs, which provide employers with tax-free stipends that they can use to choose only the health insurance benefits they need.

To date more than 10,000 employees have chosen ICHRAs over group insurance. The company will use the funds to expand its go-to-market strategy, boost payment functionality across its platform, and innovate new marketplace offerings.

“If you look at those growth statistics, it’s clear American employers are eager to invest in their employees while providing themselves the opportunity to take back control of how they spend their healthcare dollars,” said Jack Hooper, founder and CEO of Take Command. “Our team is looking forward to partnering with Edison, with its reputation for strong, customized value creation support as Take Command continues to build its capabilities to meet the rising demand for ICHRAs as more companies learn about and adopt them.”
