Last month, D CEO was presented with a coveted gold award in the 2023 national City and Regional Magazine Awards. Now, it has more trophies to put on the mantle, picking up seven honors in the 2023 Editorial Excellence Awards, presented by the Alliance of Area Business Publishers.

Judged by faculty at the University of Missouri School of Journalism, the program is considered the Oscars of the regional business publication industry.

D CEO’s five gold and two silver honors include being named Best Magazine for a third straight year.

“From impactful and gorgeous covers to an engaging End Mark department, this magazine is vibrant in both content and visuals,” the judges wrote about their decision to award D CEO the top prize. “Hard-hitting pieces tackle serious subjects, and a diversity of profiles introduce readers to people they should know. Beautiful photography and a refined design round out magazine that’s packed with vital know-how and know-who.

Creative director Hamilton Hedrick was honored with four awards, including gold for Best Overall Design, Best Use of Photography and Illustrations, and Best Cover (“When Business Gets Political,” September), as well as a Silver for Best Feature Layout (“From the Battlefield to the Boardroom”).

“A standard of sophistication, visual prowess, and innovative design grace the pages in a way that compliments the brand and challenges the readers, all while feeling natural, just right, and perfect for each story,” the judges praised. “The typography and designs are unconventional, and it’s obvious that the designer is not afraid to try something new. The photography is drop-dead gorgeous, and the use of illustrations are both complimentary and visually exciting.”

The magazine’s annual Dallas 500 won gold in the Best Ancillary Publication category. And a package by former Executive Editor Brandon J. Call on “When Business Gets Political” won a Silver in the Best Feature, Single Story category.

The Alliance of Area Business Publishers represents more than 70 regional and local business journals and magazines in the United States, Canada, Australia, and Puerto Rico. Together, they reach more than 1.2 million business professionals.
