Dallas has an annual Holiday Parade, a Pride Parade, a Juneteenth Parade, and a notorious St. Patrick’s Day Parade, but we’ve never had a major Dia de los Muertos parade. This fall, that’s going to change. The city’s first Day of the Dead parade is officially slated for Saturday, October 26, 2019. The 1.3 mile parade route will go through Downtown Dallas from 5-7 p.m. Narcity, which got the scoop from Al Dia, reports that this will be the largest Dia de los Muertos parade in Texas, if not the entire country. In the past, San Antonio has been Texans’ go-to destination for celebrating the holiday.
Mauricio Navarro, who is the executive producer of the Dallas St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival, is behind organizing the inaugural event. The parade will be followed by a party with traditional Mexican music and food. You can expect to see floats with altars honoring the deceased, Catrinas (skeletons), papel picado, flowers, and other colorful, beautiful celebrations of loved ones. At least 30,000 people are expected to attend.
