A wildly successful Miami restaurant group will open its first concept in Dallas called Komodo, an Asian-inspired restaurant that will add a dramatic, fancy flair to Deep Ellum.
Komodo Dallas will serve Pan Asian dishes that range from salmon tacos, Chilean seabass skewers, plant-based kung pao chicken, and a full sushi bar. The restaurant is a concept owned by Groot Hospitality, a collective that runs restaurants, bars, nightclubs, hotels, and other venues primarily in Miami Beach.
Hailed as the “King of Miami,” Groot Hospitality founder David Grutman’s portfolio includes the celebrity hotspot LIV Nightclub, Japanese steakhouse GEKKō (of which artist Bad Bunny is a partner), and The Goodtime Hotel, which he co-founded with artist and music producer Pharrell Williams.
Komodo Dallas will be Groot Hospitality’s first foray in Dallas—Grutman said in an email that Komodo Miami is the group’s most successful concept to date. It was also the first he opened under Groot Hospitality, so it felt right to have it be the initial concept to open in Dallas.
“We will bring our unique blend of high-level hospitality, upscale dining, luxe decor, marquee entertainment and shareable moments,” Grutman said. “We want to provide an unforgettable experience that is high-energy, high-impact, and highly memorable for all of our guests.”
Komodo Dallas is expected to open March 2023. It will spantwo stories and have seating for up to a whopping 270 diners.According to a press release, it’ll be located in The Epic Dallas on Pacific Avenue, just down Good Latimer Expressway across from nightclubs Bottled Blonde and Citizen.
A rendering of the restaurant shows that it’ll be open-air, have a waterfall element, and will take design inspiration from its Miami counterpart, including illuminated faux bamboo columns.
Grutman said Komodo Dallas will also mimic some menu items from the Miami location, such as the Peking duck, but there will be some items will be exclusive to Dallas, like the Szechuan Texas quail. That dish will use locally sourced quail, Szechuan peppercorns, chili, and white sesame. Let’s see if Komodo Dallas takes notes from Komodo Miami’s cocktail menu, too.
