The Fort Worth doctor who survived Ebola after being diagnosed while volunteering in West Africa was honored by his alma mater last week.
Abilene Christian University presented Dr. Kent Brantley with an honorary doctorate, a custom that began in 1938. He joins such luminaires as actor Charlton Heston, Dallas Cowboys Coach Tom Landry, and pro golfer Byron Nelson. The 2003 graduate delivered an address to the student body urging them to consider volunteer and disciple work abroad and used his experience in Africa helping fight Ebola as an example.
Brantly is medical missions advisor for Samaritan’s Purse and finished his medical residency program at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth.
