When we do our annual Best of Big D issue, the idea is to create a treasure map, leading you to the fantastic people, places, and things scattered hither and thither, the jewels you might not have noticed yet. We are mainly concerned with the latest and greatest, the next big things, or else we might as well publish the same list year after year. Lost in that mad scramble of discovery, perhaps, is what we truly love about our city. The bedrock on which we build our best-of issues, you could say. We’ve rectified that omission by listing them all here—or as many as we could before we ran out of space. There are people, places, and things, yes, but there are also ideas, attitudes, and defining characteristics that exist here and nowhere else. This is why we love Dallas.
