Into The Weekend: Road Trips, Daffodils, and Playing With Clay

I have one (very strong) suggestion for how to spend your weekend. Pack up a blanket and a picnic, load the kiddos into the family wagon, and take a little road trip to Gladewater for a visit to Mrs. Lee’s Daffodil Garden. Our immensely cool friend Janet Gridley turned us on to this treasure, and friends, it is a must see. It’ll take you about two hours to get there, but the payoff is more than worth the drive — acres and acres of bucolic rolling fields overrun with daffodils. I took my girlies last weekend, and it was, by far, one of the coolest things we’ve seen in a long time. You have to hurry though, as the flowers are pretty much in peak bloom and will start to wane considerably over the next few weeks.

If you’re not down with spending that much time in the car (although, you really don’t want to miss those daffodils!), then you could also make the shorter trek to Fort Worth on Saturday for Family Festival: Art at Your Fingertips from 1-4 p.m. at The Kimbell. The free event draws inspiration from the Bernini: Sculpting in Clay exhibit and includes hands-on drawing and sculpting projects, children’s films, and interactive music performances with singer/songwriter Mister Mark.

Happy weekend!
