IMG_7237Brace yourself burger fans, Harvey “Goof” Gough is back in business. He’s not associated with Goff’s, he sold it in 2004. Now he’s got a new name. One he thought about for a long time. The old buzzard gut is calling his burger joint “Harvey’s.” Clever. Harvey’s is located in a former Goff’s spot at Preston and LBJ, so he didn’t have to do much finish out. His stage was already set. The charcoal grill encased in brick was there waiting for him.

I stopped in this morning for a little reunion with Harvey. He and I go way back. In December 2002, I traveled to Afghanistan and Uzbekistan with the curmudgeon and a group of restauranteurs to cook for the troops. That’s when Harvey threw a frozen filet and me and gave me a black eye. I lived to write about it.  Twice.

Between f-bombs and insults, Harvey made me a burger. He wouldn’t answer many questions as he doesn’t care for “media pukes” like me. He wouldn’t let me take any pictures so I had to sneak these. His menu hasn’t changed much and all of the customers I saw were old regulars at Goff’s. On the bright side, Harvey’s wife makes a mean flourless chocolate cake.

Flourless chocolate cake.
Flourless chocolate cake.

He’s still tweaking his French fries and isn’t making his own meat combo yet, but fans will not be disappointed. He’s waiting for you. When you go in, ask for the Desert Queen Special. Then duck before he throws something at you.
