The first week of the hottest month of the year warrants a drink, and I mean a cold one. Here’s a list of events to keep you hydrated.
Wednesday, August 5
Today at Cotton Patch Café in Rockwall, 10 percent of all proceeds will go toward a fundraiser for Scottish Rite Hospital for Children at the request of Addie Bryan, an eight year-old who has been treated by the facility. Her goal is to raise $8,000 for the hospital in order to thank them for her life-altering care. The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Click here to read more about Addie’s story.
Thursday, August 6
The kickoff to Dallas Restaurant Week is today from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Sixty Five Hundred. The night of sampling features restaurants and bars from all over the city. Additionally, a portion of the proceeds will benefit North Texas Food Bank in Dallas and Lena Pope in Fort Worth. Reserve your $50 ticket here.
Evening in the Shed continues this week from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. The Dallas Farmers Market event won’t continue much longer, so enjoy these nights while they last. Food, music, vendors, beer and wine will all be available to enjoy as the summer sun sets over the Big D.
Friday, August 7
See for yourself if blondes really do have more fun. Deep Ellum Brewing Company’s Dallas Blonde brew is turning three years old and to celebrate, they’re throwing a bash at Katy Trail Ice House. Starting at 7 p.m., head over to the popular patio and enjoy the beer deemed one of the most controversially named in Dallas. Like they say, “it goes down easy.”
Wine Poste is hosting a pinot noir tasting from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Six delicious, hand-picked wines will be available to taste for a $10 charge. Get you ticket here or pay at the door.
Saturday, August 8
Need a day out of the big city? Travel to McKinney’s historic Chestnut Square to participate in their watermelon seed-spitting contest. It’s like a scene from Gilmore Girls, am I wrong? The event starts at 9 a.m. and every age can participate. One slice of melon costs $3. Happy spittin’.
Local Brews, Local Grooves is going down today at the House of Blues. The festival begins at 3 p.m. (for VIP tickets) and features local craft brews, bands to jam to and all the food samples you can stomach. Some breweries in attendance are Deep Ellum Brewing Co., Bishop Cider Co. and Four Corners Brewery. Tickets begin at $12.50 for general admission. Reserve your spot and see all the talent here.
Sunday, August 9
Celebrated chef Chris Ward is teaching a charity cooking class from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. in support of the Greyhound Adoption League of Texas. For $65 guests can enjoy a glass of wine and an invaluable cooking lesson at The Mercury.
