The weather is a buzzkill, but don't miss Wick-It The Instigator, Josh Garrels, Drug Animal, and more.

The general consensus is that Thursday has already been established as the new Friday, but with this weather (24 degrees and dropping!), it might as well be just another Monday night. Still, if you’re willing to brave more of the same mood-killing weather plaguing the Big D this Thursday night, you might be in good company. On to the Thursday events…

Wick-It The Instigator/Thriftworks/Dallas Mafia (Trees): Windows (yes, that Windows) and Soundcloud love him, and over one-thousand music fans flock to him a week. It’s definitely not a stretch to say that all things are good with Wick-It, whose fun mixes and five-star remixes have him earning plenty of fans across the Internet stratosphere, which can be a little difficult when working primarily in the EDM market. We’re sure the completely free downloads, and the Quentin Tarantino-laced dubstep mixes sweeten the deal a little.

Josh Garrels (The Kessler): This singer-songwriter will no doubt fill many seats as he remains a steady favorite in folk and Christian rock circles. His full-length, fan-supported music documentary, The Sea Between, dazzled plenty in 2013, and he’ll be back to share his special mix of folk and hip-hop with his welcoming fan base. The Houston-based Christian rock/worship band Robbie Seay will accompany him.

Bernadette Peters (The Meyerson Symphony Center): The Dallas Symphony Orchestra will support the legendary singer-actress at the Meyerson Symphony Center through what will no doubt be a fun night filled with some of Broadway’s biggest hits. She’ll be working her way through five decades of material, so keep your ears open for your favorite Peters’ originals.

“Lost Generation” (The Crown and Harp): Cygnus will be performing with all live hardware this evening, so be warned in case you were expecting a typical DJ set, of someone gazing into a laptop. Which is fine with me, but this is no that.

Resident Wanz Dover will be providing a historically accurate set focusing on Berlin and Midwestern Techno, and/or the many similarities and connections therein. — Christopher Mosley

Other Thursday events–

Drug Animal/Venetian Sailors (The Dram): A full spectrum of rock will be showcased in a single setting this evening- from Venetian Sailors’ `60s-inspired folk rock to the more willfully scuzzy sounds of Drug Animal. One can never know what to full expect from a live show at the Dram, but that’s part of the fun.

Finally, DJ Sober w ill be playing his Big Bang Basement at the Travis Disco; Colly T’s “VIBE” will entertain the Hendy-area masses at Beauty Bar, along with his guest for the evening, Zach Witness. DJ Yeahdef is running the ever immortal “80s Night,” at Hailey’s in Denton.
