Clearly, one thing we can all agree on is that the new Daft Punk single is awesome. Happy Monday.
Jill Abramson, executive editor of The New York Times, was scheduled to give a lecture this evening, but the event has been canceled because of every awful thing that happened last week. However, the Big Read Dallas will be at Union Coffee (near SMU) tonight, giving away free copies of Fahrenheit 451 to everyone who orders a special “hot chili” chocolate. Since I’m a huge wimp when it comes to spicy things, this sounds just about guaranteed to make my lips fall off.
Also tonight, Canadian electronic duo Crystal Castles are at the House of Blues. Their shows are notoriously intense, but first they actually have to make it to the stage. As of right now, we’re looking pretty good. They have a new record, which is fine, more of the same distorted, hot-cold vocals against an electronic backdrop, but I tend to prefer older stuff, such as “Untrust Us” and “Crimewave,” a collaboration with Health that I’m definitely not ashamed to admit I’ve liked since hearing it on Gossip Girl. (Dang, I miss that show.)
If none of these things appeal, may I suggest a movie? There are quite a few new releases worthy of your attention, according to our FrontRow critics, and that includes Terrence Malick’s latest, To The Wonder, and Richardson native Shane Carruth’s second feature, Upstream Color.
