1. The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, a politicized body that has in the past not acted in the best interests of the people it is supposed to serve, has not been as forthcoming as it could about the possible dangers of drilling in the Barnett Shale. And now U.S. Rep. Michael Burgess of Lewisville has called on the Texas attorney general to investigate the agency. This is a big story that you should follow closely — especially if you live in Tarrant County.

2. We’re learning more about the pipe rupture that flooded the basement of the Dallas County records building yesterday and pert much shut down the county government. The best part: a consultant warned the county that it needed to prepare itself for such an eventuality in 2008, and the county did nothing. Somewhere there is a consultant saying, “Told you so.”

3. A Plano kid named Chetan Reddy will compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee in D.C. this week. We wish him luck. And we invite him to play Words With Friends with us anytime he likes. Good luck to everyone who made it it round two today.
