If you missed Rudolph Bush’s story about Dallas’ McCommas Landfill in the DMN, and you fancy yourself a bit of a trash nerd, check it out. The heap o’ garbage is the state’s first experiment in refuse biotechnology, converting the landfill into a giant compost and collecting all of that yummy-smelling gas into usable natural gas — enough for some 16,000 homes (estimated). I’m a self-admitted trash nerd, as I can’t help but get more than a little philosophical about “where it all goes” after the kindly trash dudes take it away. Also worth checking out: this story from GQ a couple of months ago about a landfill in L.A.
