RE: WHY PEOPLE DON’T LIKE US

The day that journalism becomes more a path to stardom than a vocation of serving one’s fellow man is the day we are finished.

Well, Reid, yes and no. I don’t mind that someone’s motive for getting into journalism isn’t all altruistic. Heck, I want to be the next Christopher Hitchens — only a little less fat, pro-war and British, of course. And as the philosopher said, “Look sister, I ain’t in this for you and I ain’t in it for your rebellion. I expect to be well paid.” But the bottom line is, if we’re going to be story tellers on the human condition, we can’t forget that every subject is, indeed, a human being.
