Well, having just spent seven hours in a class on Sunday getting my CHL renewed, and despite being a journalist who generally advocates open records, I gotta say I’m with this. The whole point of open records laws and transparent government is so that we can shine the spotlight on what those in power are doing — politicians, police and civil servants. I’m not real fond of the idea of it being all about shining the spotlight on private citizens. We’re supposed to be watchdogs on government, not law-abiding folks who aren’t doing anyone any harm.
