RE: CAROLINA HURRICANES

|

I just got to my e-mail and, much to my surprise, I wasn’t the only hockey fan in town last night. Eighteen people sent reports and thanks for talking hockey in the midst of Mav Mania. I can’t call them all out but here is one report I chose because it mirrors my sentiment on the local radio station that is supposed to be about sports:

Just to let you know that you were not the only person in Dallas watching the Edmonton – Carolina game last night. There is a large contingent of ex-Edmontonians living down here in the Dallas area cheering our team on like crazy. I have been rather disappointed in the lack of media coverage the playoffs have received down here, considering that Dallas has an NHL franchise. This has been most noticeable on the Ticket where self acknowledged Hockey Guru’s – Bob and Dan- host a weekly program with the Star’s Bill Guerin, and the Muser’s have Daryl Reaugh appear as a guest on their morning show. I guess this just helps to support my opinion that most of the media and people who go to hockey games in Dallas, are nothing but fair weather fans. There interest in the game goes only as far as the Stars do, and that they really have no love or understanding of hockey itself. Yes of course the Mavs are 2 games away from a championship, and that should garner a lot of attention, but I really would have expected a little more from the Ticket given the support they provide all year.

Drop the puck!
