HAS THE DMN REFORMED ITSELF?

|

Something is going on at the News. Awhile back, we spent 14 days waiting for the paper to cover an important story that Channel 11 broke about a corrupt official. I figured it was because the paper didn’t want to give the TV station credit (especially given that the TV producer largely responsible for getting the story, Todd Bensman, is a former DMN reporter). Okay, but then Channel 11 found more bad stuff on State Rep. Terri Hodge last Tuesday: her strange advocacy of a mass murderer and other convicts, raising yet more questions about conflicts of interest. The paper moved relatively quickly, weighing in with a short editorial on Saturday on the latest Hodge revelation (scroll down)–and it gave credit to Channel 11 for breaking the story.

So someone on the editorial board is awake and watching TV. But unless I’m mistaken, it’s the paper’s policy not to mention such a story on the editorial page unless and until the story has been reported in the news part of the newspaper–which the lastest Hodge story hasn’t. Either that policy has changed, or someone on the editorial board is in trouble.
