D Home Welcomes the New Year With the Best of Everything Issue

|

’Tis the season to undo all holiday harm. I call it my period of perfection—an all too brief, monthlong stretch of atonement wherein I spend wisely, wash my face before I go to bed, and exercise diligently. It’s my favorite time of year—the moment when a lazy cynic like me is actually optimistic about self-improvement. And I know I’m not alone. New Year’s resolutions have everyone in Dallas vying for a “super” state. I see you when I’m fighting my way through the crowds on the once deserted Katy Trail. So, while we’re all attempting to become our best selves, D Home is getting into the game, too. We present to you our annual Best of Everything issue where we celebrate all the best people, places, and things our city has to offer. Need help with that kitchen organization resolution? We know just the lady. Planning to eat only organic this year? We have the apron you need when you create your healthful masterpieces. We have all the details on the best monogrammers, wallpaper, fabrics, and more—all kinds of things that will make your life, well, better.

Speaking of the good life, have you ever wondered what NBCDFW-Channel 5 anchorwoman Jane McGarry’s house is like? Wonder no more. We take you inside the Fort Worth home she shares with husband Kevin and son Michael, and the tour might surprise you. The McGarrys worked closely with noted designer Ken Blasingame to create a retreat full of color—beginning with the lime green front door—and architectural touches inspired by international travels. From there, we head to West Highland Park and visit with artist Melissa Auberty at her recently reconfigured “dream house,” which is contemporary enough to showcase her art collection yet comfortable enough for her sons to hang with friends and watch television.

Happy New Year. May you achieve your best you in the coming months. And if you’re not feeling it this year, take comfort in knowing that all bets are off by the time spring break hits.

Best,

Laura Kostelny
