You may remember Janine Turner from movies like Steel Magnolias and television shows like Dallas, The Love Boat, and General Hospital. The Texas born-and-raised actress turned political activist is currently busy hosting a radio program The Janine Turner Radio Show: Hear the Thunder, which aims to educate listeners on the United States Constitution.

Her mission to teach America’s youth paired with her daughter’s release, Our Constitution Rocks, shows how passionate this mother-daughter team is about our country’s history. We were curious to see how the former cover model stays healthy and keeps her energy up. Here, she shares her favorite gluten-free snacks and her go-to workout routine.

If you’ve got only 20 minutes to work out, what’s your routine?
I would do yoga and then I would do one of two things: If I was in town I would do the elliptical or if I was at the ranch I would go for a quick hike. I love to hike.

What’s your typical daily workout routine?
I was a dancer so yoga is super important to me because it really stretches and elongates the body at the same time. I actually have a yoga DVD, called “Christoga.” You hold a pose and recite a scripture. It’s yoga for Christians.

What’s your usual breakfast?
Gluten-free corn flakes, brown rice crisps, and a big glass of organic orange juice. I always eat protein and at this point its usually organic chicken sausage links or sometimes even just a hamburger patty or a pork chop. I really bring on the protein in the morning.

What is your go-to cheat meal?
Chocolate. But I will still make sure it has no dairy because of my food allergy. Lately I’ve been having these delicious little coconut milk popsicles with a coating of chocolate on them—dairy free and gluten free.

Name a song from your workout playlist.
I have an album that goes a long with my “Christoga” workout. It’s more hip, modern and uplifting. I also like show tunes because I love Broadway.
