If your locale has stopped you from learning how to sail–listen up. Sure, North Texas isn’t home to salt water and sand, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t a place where you can feel the wind through your hair, the sun on your back and yell, “Ahoy matey!” White Rock Lake, Lake Lewisville and Lake Ray Hubbard (to name a few) all offer beginner sailing courses. Here, a few tips to get you out on the open water–no experience needed!

Class details: This two-hour course will get your comfortable with being out on the water. You will be paired with an experienced captain who will teach you how to tie a knot, basic sailing terminology and how to use the safety equipment.

Class details: This twelve-hour course is broken down into a 3-hour classroom session, followed by 9 hours on the open water. No doubt you’ll be an experienced beginner when it’s all said and done. It also includes ASA Sailing Fundamentals text, lunch and refreshments.
