Survival Guide: The Holiday Season

Who says dashing through the snow can't count as exercise?

Let’s be honest folks, the only workout we’re getting this time of year is from walking laps around North Park. We know that putting in those extra hours in the gym this time of year isn’t easy. We also know your to-do list is longer than Santa’s naughty or nice list. That’s why we want you to get out and enjoy the holidays – while being active. From activities, to recipes, to gifts ideas, we’ve got you covered.

DO THIS:
Jingle Bell Run 5K
Sunday, December 21
6:30 pm
Pull out your Santa hats and reindeer antlers and lace up for Dallas’ holiday fun run at the Hilton Anatole. Your race entry also allows you access to the Hilton Anatole Sparkle! event. What better way to burn those pre-Christmas calories than enjoying some holiday cheer?

Karmany Yoga Dallas
Saturday, December 13
2:00-4:00
This 60-minute yoga detox session followed by a cooking demo and tasting of healthy holiday hor d’ouevures is just what Santa ordered. Hurry! Spots are filling up fast!

Christmas Light Tour
Rather than loading the family in the car this year, opt to walk around the brightest block instead. Bring a Jambox for Christmas tunes on the go.

TRY THIS:
Swap Hot Cocoa for Spiced Tea
Avoid the extra calories, but still enjoy the taste of the holiday season. Include a cinnamon stick for an added flare.

Whole Foods Highland Park Healthy Eating Specialist
Did you know you can book a consultation with a healthy eating specialist at Whole Foods? They will give you the tools to shop healthy and eat healthy all year long. All services free of charge too!

Fruit Cake
This treat can be unhealthy, but with this recipe you can’t go wrong. Load up on the fruit, easy on the cake

1. Put the dried fruit and coconut sugar in a saucepan with 2 cups of water. Include whatever fruit you fancy. Dried apricot and raisins are our favorites.

2. Bring to a boil

3. When the mixture has cooled, stir in walnuts, chia seeds, 2 ½ cups almond flour

4. Grease and line cake tin

5. Pour mixture into the tin and smooth on top

6. Cook at 320 degrees for 2 hours

7. Enjoy!

GIVE THIS:
Yoga Membership
This is the gift that keeps on giving. It’s a great gift for that friend who needs to relieve some stress – or coworker. There are so many options around town – be sure to do your research. Hot yoga? Bikram? Uptown? Downtown? The answers to these questions will matter.

Central Market Cooking Class
Hopefully the recipient of this gift will take their new skills and whip up a healthy dinner for you in return. Let the chefs at Central Market help you get a head start on being healthy this year. Perfect for a mother-daughter date!

Membership to Fabletics
Nope. This isn’t a new gym in town. Fabletics sends you (or friend) new fitness gear right to your doorstep every month. That’s one way to get motivated.
