Why Steven Spielberg Won’t Direct Chris Kyle Movie, American Sniper

|

Deadline reported yesterday afternoon that Oscar-winning director Steven Spielberg has pulled out of his plans to direct the movie of the life story of decorated Navy SEAL Chris Kyle, American Sniper.

The only reason offered is that Spielberg couldn’t “square his vision of this movie with the budget.”

So I’m guessing he wanted to add to the story an orphaned child-android on a mission from another planet to hunt for Nazi gold buried in a defunct amusement park for resurrected dinosaurs that lies deep in the jungles of South America, who only ever really longed for a father figure like Kyle to teach him how to become a real boy, and who (in turn) teaches Kyle about the need to be a better father himself. Plus a sharknado for the climactic battle scene, obviously.

Instead the world will have to settle for Bradley Cooper playing Chris Kyle in a more faithful adaptation.
