Blast off.

Photographer Andi Harman made a nice transitional-season playlist (available here on FrontRow) for you to get in the May groove, but hi, there is a freeze warning for Friday. A freeze warning. Why so silly, Texas? Why.

If you actually clicked that link, you’ll notice a track by Shabazz Palaces, in honor of their show at the Granada tonight. The rappers have the distinction of being one of the only hip hop groups signed to Seattle’s Sub Pop Records (home of Beach House, Washed Out, and Nirvana, to name just a few), along with tour buddies THEESatisfaction. Malitia Malimob also supports. Anyway, this should be solid. And indoors, since it is crazy cold and rainy. And if you don’t feel like going home, DJ Trademarx (a guy a friend of mine has never met, but refers to as her “guardian angel” because she sees him, seriously, everywhere) spins a late set next door at Sundown at the Granada.

Also this evening, Spacegrove Productions, the folks who brought us the wonderful homegrown musical On the Eve at the end of last year, presents a staged reading of another locally-made play at the Green Zone. Theresa Alice is written by one of our Best of Big D best actress nominees, Jenny Ledel, and features BOBD best actor nominee, Drew Wall, in the cast. Anyway, it’s Ledel’s first full-length play, and concerns a woman, presumably named Theresa Alice, who’s made some regrettable life choices. Haven’t we all. (I’ve only made three.) The difference is, her mistakes plunge her into a weird fantasy land with a “brutish King Henry VIII, a cross-dressing gossip, a pop-singing Cleopatra, and a monstrous hawk named Brian,” and she must find her way back home. Check it out. It’s free, and only happening tonight and tomorrow. And it’s a great excuse to drop by The Slow Bone for some barbecue.

For more to do tonight, go here.
