Things To Do In Dallas Tonight: Mar. 4

I have just been informed that Joss Whedon and the Much Ado About Nothing cast is going to be in Austin this weekend for SXSW. If you see reports of a deranged fan camped out at the Austin Convention Center, don’t worry. It’s only me.

Tonight, that veritable battering ram of culture, otherwise known as the Fort Worth Opera, comes knocking down our door. I’ve always liked the FWO, since they’ve struck me as a little kooky in a way that I can really get behind. They’re participating in the WaterTower Theatre’s upcoming Out of the Loop Fringe Fest and regularly host an event called “Opera Shots,” in which their talented performers take over the mic at a Cowtown bar during happy hour and presumably encourage you to get blasted while listening to someone sing soprano. Anyway, at long last, they are finally bringing this tradition our way.

The Fort Worth Opera will be at The Foundry this evening, where you can have some fried chicken at Chicken Scratch, a local beer, and enjoy, among other selections, a performance of Patrick Soluri’s short comic opera, Figaro’s Last Hangover. (Soluri is one of the composers who has been chosen to participate in the Fort Worth Opera Festival’s new works division in a couple months.) If you stay long enough, I suppose that could be you tomorrow. Regardless, bless these guys for keeping the spirit of the weekend alive just a little longer. It’s free to drop by, and starts around 6:30 p.m. If you’re the polite sort, you can RSVP.

Even though Mondays are traditionally a dark dining day, Sakhuu Thai is open for a good cause. A hat tip to our Carol Shih over on SideDish for this one. If you have a hankering for those stuffed chicken wings tonight (or any Monday night in March), 100% of the proceeds from your meal will go to Kidd’s Kids, radio personality Kidd Kraddick’s foundation for kids with special medical needs. Sakhuu is also BYOB.
