Icy roads, Rich Vana leaves Entree Dallas, and Sylvan Thirty’s ramen shop is burned to the ground—could this Monday have gotten off to a better start?

I’m sorry to be the bearer of more bad news, but the North Texas Taco Festival, put on by Rich Vana and José Ralat-Maldonado of Taco Trail, is (for now) terminado. There won’t be another street-wide bash this year. Its first and last year in Deep Ellum proved to be an exciting one, but the whole shebang took way too much time to produce.

This doesn’t mean Ralat-Maldonado is done throwing taco parties, though. Hear him speak:

The public excitement for the North Texas Taco Festival has been awesome. Equally awesome is the investment required to executive an event the size of the NTTF. Due to production issues associated with pulling off the festival as well as other factors, we’ve decided to indefinitely postpone the NTTF. We don’t want to re-learn the lessons from the inaugural taco festival. So, until we can assure mistakes won’t be replicated, the North Texas Taco Festival will be on hiatus.

In place of the main festival will be another TacoCon (Cerveza) at Four CornersBrewing Co. The event will be held Saturday, April 26, and feature seven taco trucks—more than the 2013 edition—from across Dallas-Fort Worth beginning service at 11 a.m. The event will run all day. Again, admission will be free while tacos and beer will be for sale.

The Tequila Patron Taco Throwdown remains scheduled for Wednesday, April 23, at Four Corners Brewing Co. At that evening event, Omar Flores, chef-owner of Driftwood and the 2014 James Beard Award nominated Casa Rubia at Trinity Groves, will defend his title against four fine-dining contenders. The competing chefs include Jeff Harris (AF+B), Blaine Staniford (Little Red Wasp, Grace) and Robert Lyford (Patina Green). Tickets will go on sale soon.
