I first heard on CraveDFW that ACME Social Club, the clearly-trying-to-survive restaurant, finally puttered out after a long, breathless run. The space at 4900 McKinney Avenue first started as a joint venture between Good 2 Go girls (Colleen O’Hare and Jeana Johnson) and the Barcadia ladies (Brooke Humphries and Brianna Larson). It started out as a pretty cool concept. Centered around a meat allocation program and real farm-to-table food, ACME F&B (its original name) had good things going for it. But then there was a shakeup, and a lot of crazy things happened at once. Norman Grimm was appointed the new executive chef, the Barcadia ladies bought out the Good 2 Go girls, and then it kinda went downhill from there.
The restaurant sunk into a teenager, angsty stage where it questioned its own identity a lot, and then—miraculously—out of all the death metal music rose a new face. ACME F&B rebirthed into ACME Social Club, a “neighborhood restaurant and bar” with self-described “above-average bar food.” (Not raising the bar that high, did it…) It changed its focus to dishes like mac ‘n’ cheese and blackened mahi tacos.
Less than three months after that press release announcing those changes hit our media inboxes, ACME Social Club is done. Nada. No more. A PR rep confirmed that the restaurant shut down on Wednesday.
