The Swiss Avenue Historic District’s Baldwin House has a storied past. Built in 1915, the Craftsman-style gem was almost demolished in 2004—then taken to the studs in 2009 to be expanded and renovated. The end product is a classic home that’s been fully updated with all the comforts of modern day life, though you’ll still find the original windows and hardwood floors give you a taste of the history of the home.

The restoration team went to painstaking lengths to insure that the Baldwin Home maintains its historical accuracy and Craftsman charm. The original wavy glass windows have been coated with a UV film, called museum film, which is colorless and transparent but provides an extra level of protection for the floor and home furnishings. Bonuses like exposed wood beams, a front porch swing, and period built-ins will make you feel like you’ve stepped back in time—that is, until you notice the marble countertops, Wolf and Subzero appliances, and wine refrigerator—which are all decidedly 2017.

The first floor of the Baldwin home is completely dedicated to entertaining. Rooms are filled with natural light thanks to an excess of windows, and the wooden details and fireplaces bring warmth to every space. Upstairs, four bedrooms plus playroom will insure you and yours have plenty of space to retreat from the day. In the backyard you’ll find the covered garage, plus a two-level guest quarter that’s 1,000 square feet.

On top of the beautiful home, life in the Swiss Avenue Historic District is pretty sweet. The East Dallas neighborhood was one of the first residential developments in the city, and is known for its beautiful, quiet tree-lined streets just blocks from anything and everything you could ever want—but in a setting that you can actually relax in.
