People underrate Northwood Heights. There are lots of mid-century ranches in the area, but the North Dallas neighborhood is also home to the uber-modern Urban Reserve. “It’s this quiet little pocket with a bunch of great moderns,” Compass agent John Weber* says.
Just a five-minute walk away from the Urban Reserve sits 8526 Stults Rd. The modern home was designed by Tom Greico and built in 2015. Greico, who died in 2019, was a pioneer in modern home construction in North Dallas. “He always did a great job with this sleek, clean modern,” Weber says. The house’s exteriors have crisp lines and a mix of stucco, dark-stained wood, and levels that give the house dimension and a different flair than many other Dallas homes.
“It definitely lends itself to be more of like a Florida modern,” says Weber, “or more of a style that you’d see in an area like Miami, or something like that, as opposed to necessarily a Dallas modern.”
The contemporary design continues inside. The house has polished concrete floors throughout its downstairs, along with metal detailing, an open floor plan, and modern lighting. The house doesn’t lack for natural light, Weber says. “They did really take advantage of light everywhere they possibly could.” There are walls of windows in the living room and primary bedroom. Additionally, many spaces, including the living and breakfast rooms, the entryway, and the bathrooms, feature clerestory windows.
But despite the house’s modern sensibilities, “it really does have a comfortable feel,” Weber says. There’s “phenomenal” wall space to display an art collection, and the nearly 3,000-square-foot floor plan has plenty of room for houseplants, just like the current owner’s collection. “It’s not this formal space that that just feels stuffy,” he says.
And the property is great for entertaining. The glass windows open and collapse into each other to create a doorway to the outdoors. The backyard feels like a resort, Weber says. There’s a saltwater pool, several lounge areas, a hot tub, fountain, and tanning deck. Because the property sits on just under a quarter acre, there’s room for a small side yard and larger lawn beyond the pool, too.
You “do have a really nice sized outdoor patio plus pool plus a yard,” Weber says. “You don’t necessarily usually get the full package” in Dallas, but in this house you do.
