A Boston healthcare company moving its headquarters to downtown Dallas has also taken out about 165,000 square feet in Richardson, according to a market report from CBRE. (See editor’s note below this story). News broke in February that Steward Health Care—the largest private hospital operator in the U.S. after a $2 billion acquisition in October—was headed for Dallas-Fort Worth.
The space is in the Galatyn Commons – B building at 2375 N. Glenville Drive, and it’s big enough to hold hundreds of employees. That’s in addition to the company’s three floors at 1900 Pearl St. in Dallas, a space it will share with Baker McKenzie.
The firm previously released a statement to the Dallas Morning News and others, which says that “In order to manage this growth, Steward is redeploying some key executive leadership to new states.”
“This includes concentration of leadership in Texas, which reflects the size of that market, and its proximity to other markets in Utah and Arizona,” the statement reads.
Steward doesn’t currently have hospital locations in DFW, but it has facilities in Port Arthur, Beaumont, Odessa, San Antonio, Houston, and Texarkana. It has four locations in Arizona and five in Utah. Its largest market by far is Massachusetts, where the company lists 14 facilities.
The Boston Globe reported in November that Steward has quadrupled in size over the course of a year, transitioning to a more national aim along the way.
Editor’s note: After I posted this, real estate sources told D CEO‘s Julia Bunch that the CBRE report was a touch over-zealous, and that the deal isn’t final just yet. Steward is expected to close on the Richardson space by the end of April, sources say.
