In high school, back when I did a lot of thinking about my master plan to escape Irving forever, I would listen to Matchbox 20’s “Bright Lights.” When I was in middle school and hadn’t quite figured out what to do with my hair, I listened to “Last Beautiful Girl” and “Push” and “Bent.” All this means is that I have friendly feelings toward people named Rob Thomas. One of them made my favorite TV show. The other helped soundtrack my teenage trauma.
Anyway, Matchbox 20 is in town tonight with another band of my formative years, the Goo Goo Dolls. They’re co-headlining a big summer comeback tour, celebrating new albums alongside the songs that made both bands great in the ’90s and early 2000s. If you head to Craft and Growler before the concert, you have the added benefit of ordering delivery from a book of menus at the bar.
Also this evening, the Wine Poste in the Design District offers a Scardello cheese and Burgundy wine pairing class. It’s sommelier-led and includes four wines and eight to ten cheeses. Anything both educational and tasty is highly recommended.
